The Brain that Would Not
Die (1962)
This horror
film is about a young man, supposedly a
doctor who must save
his girlfriend after a terrible auto accident. However, he can
only seem manage to rescue only her head after she is
decapitated in a car accident.
Get ready for some ultra low
budget horror
throughout.
Wrapping her head in a blanket and carrying in back to the lab
(sort of in a football fashion) he develops a special solution
and manages to keep his girlfriend's
head alive in a pan
in his laboratory. Then he wisks off to a beauty pageant and few other
places to search for the ideal replacement
body!
We also have a subplot going on
with Jan (his girlfriends head) being able to communicate with
something else that is alive and living in the closet.
Yes, it is a giant ugly creature that is locked in the closet
but the suspense builds (sort of) all through the movie because
you don't see him escape until the end.
Mean while
the doctor is chosing a girl, who in his mind has no reason
whatsoever to live with the head she already has, because she
has a facial scar. As
horrible as this movie sounds, don't get me wrong...it is
exceptionally entertaining. The acting is rather limited, but
the story does move along
so as to ensure you won't likely fall
asleep.
"Jan in the Pan" is
portrayed by Virginia Leith who really probably is best
remembered these days for this cult film. The special effects
and monster make up were about average for a B
movie. The movie does have a few violent surprises (for 1962)
towards the end.
As bad as it sounds, this
movie is a real hoot!
For more laughs catch the Mystery Science Theatre version.
Watch for the ending credits where they obviously could not
even remember what the movie was
called.
The Title is : The Brain
That Would Not Die
The Ending : The Head That Would Not
Die
I would rate this b movie
at 7 / 10 for it's unusual appeal.
